Congrats to the winners of the Design Challenge for the Patient Portal for New Yorkers! Mana Health placed first, iHealthNY second, and My Health Profile third. They will be awarded $15,000, $7,500, and $2,500 respectively.
The Patient Portal for New Yorkers will be a website which gives New Yorkers the power they deserve to take control of their own health. Through this safe, secure portal, New Yorkers statewide will be able to access all of their medical records with the ease and reliability we’ve come to expect in online banking.
To find the very best, most user-friendly models, we launched a Design Challenge earlier this year, asking designers to submit portal prototypes to be reviewed by the general public. In April, the voting began. Thousands of New Yorkers reviewed multiples designs, and let their opinions be heard. Voting was open to all.
The voting yielded nine finalists, who demonstrated their products for judging by panels of experts at a public event held in New York City on April 30, and another in Buffalo on May 2.
With winning prototypes selected, NYeC can now begin building. The portal will function on top of the Statewide Health Information Network of New York (SHIN-NY), a platform which connects health records across the state.
The Patient Portal for New Yorkers will begin to be available to the public in 2014, with the hope of better, more empowered healthcare for all.
Thank you to those who submitted designs, and to those who voted and judged. And congratulations to our winners: This is technology that will make a difference.
